Personal Background

Welcome to Audio Artisans! My name is Ferenc Bálint, and I am 56 years old. I am a proud father of two daughters, aged 16 and 20. I live in Szeged, a charming city in the southern part of Hungary, with my wonderful wife and children.

My educational journey began with a focus on chemistry in secondary school. I later enrolled in the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, but due to unforeseen circumstances, I couldn’t complete my studies. However, this did not hinder my career ambitions. Over the years, I have gained extensive experience working with multinational and large private companies in trade and marketing, holding various managerial and directorial positions. Additionally, I have run my own private company since I was 23.

In my leisure time, I cherish moments spent with my family, whether we are at home or exploring new destinations. We enjoy long walks, indulging in gastronomy, and participating in sports, particularly tennis and basketball. We also have a passion for water activities and regularly visit saunas. My primary hobby, however, is HiFi and music. One of my dreams is to buy a Harley-Davidson motorcycle and tour the scenic Alps-Adria region with my wife.

My Start of the Audio Jurney

My passion for HiFi began at a very young age, perhaps around the age of 10. Even before that, I managed to ruin one of my dad’s amplifiers by shorting it out with a screwdriver and chewed on speaker cords at around the age of 1 or 2.

My father, a radio amateur who often worked behind the mixer at local disco clubs, greatly influenced my interest in HiFi. He built his own amplifiers and speakers, and our home was always filled with branded HiFi equipment, often featuring multiple systems at once.

Adolescent Years

During my teenage years, our home was a treasure trove of high-end audio equipment, including the Grundig 5000 Series Hi-Fi Tower, Revox B77, Yamaha M-60, TEAC X-1000M, various Dynaudio speaker kits, and a Dual turntable. We were among the first in town to own a CD player. I still treasure our first CD, “Brothers in Arms” by Dire Straits. Ironically, as quickly as the CD format rose to popularity, it began to decline with the advent of streaming. Yet that particular CD is now becoming a vintage item, increasing in value.

The teenage years are a time of discovery and openness to new experiences. It was during this period that my musical tastes broadened. Initially, I enjoyed the melodic and rhythmic music of Boney M and ABBA. This phase was followed by a rock era, with bands like Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. By the age of 12 or 13, I had developed an appreciation for jazz, regularly listening to the Belgrade “Jazz Stage” on the radio every Saturday. If I couldn’t listen live, I would ask my father to record it for me on cassette tapes, which I would later listen to obsessively.

At 16, I began exploring classical music. CDs were very affordable in Hungary at that time, and I bought about ten from Hungaroton. Despite their low cost, the quality of the musicians was exceptional, and I quickly fell in love with classical music. This era of my life was about developing a deep love for music and an openness to various musical genres. This all happened in the 70s and 80s, during the communist era in Eastern Europe, when neither hi-fi equipment nor global music was easily accessible.

World of the High-End Audio

By the age of 20, when I became independent, my passion for high-end audio intensified. I have owned and experimented with countless systems over the years. Some notable equipment from the 90s includes Jadis DEFY 7, Jadis DP-60 MM/MC, Jadis DA-6, Jadis Orchestra Line, Pierre Lurne J1, Pierre Lurne Mephisto, Linn Sondek, Kuzma Stabi Ref II, Conrad Johnson Premier Eleven, Audio Note Oto Phono SE, Audio Note P2, Audio Note Meishu, various Accuphase integrated amplifiers, Pass Aleph 0, Krell KSA-100, Wavac MD-300B, Meridian 203, various Triangle speakers, different B&W speakers, various JmLab speakers (now Focal), Audiostatic ESH-100, JPS Labs, Harmonic Technology, and VDH cablings, Musical Fidelity Tri-Vista 300, and EgglestonWorks Isabel. The list is endless from the 90s and 00s, reflecting my unending curiosity and passion for high-end audio.

Need for a High-End Company

Professionally, I entered the high-end audio industry in September 2008 when I acquired a struggling HiFi store from a friend. I began representing brands such as Eggleston Works, Transparent Audio, Krell, Stealth Audio Cables, Vienna Acoustics, Grand Prix Audio, Esoteric, PS Audio, Spendor, Kuzma, Dynavector, Karan, and Electrocompaniet. Today, I continue to distribute most of these brands in Hungary, along with several other prestigious names.

Recent Projects

My latest venture focuses on representing and promoting emerging brands like Odeon Audio, Supreme Analog, Rui Borges, Core Audio, and NAT Audio. These artisanal brands bring significant value to the high-end audio market with their unique technologies, meticulous craftsmanship, and exceptional aesthetic and auditory experiences.

I firmly believe that just as educating young people is crucial for our future, supporting emerging high-end manufacturers with strong values is essential for the future of high-end audio. While dealers and distributors often prefer well-established brands that generate their own demand, I am committed to giving lesser-known but high-quality brands the attention they deserve.

Supporting these brands requires substantial effort. Customers don’t typically come to the store on their own to see or listen to these products. Instead of waiting passively, I actively take the equipment to exhibitions, invite customers for demonstrations, and tirelessly promote the products’ qualities. This hands-on approach is challenging but incredibly rewarding.

I am someone who loves new challenges and cannot sit still. I have received a lot from the high-end audio world, and it is time to give something back by supporting these remarkable brands. I have always wanted to test myself in international trade and marketing, and now I have this opportunity with Audio Artisans.
